While the final results are not yet it, preliminary indications are that over 1,100 people participated on Thursday October 4th at more than 150 tables. There were 158,000 social media impressions and 1,825 engagements (meaning clicks, likes, and re-postings). This does not include the print, TV, radio, and outdoor advertising impressions. The community responded with earnest and energetic conversations about what matters in the Lowcountry.
Though Charleston avoided the brunt of Hurricane Florence, it reminds us of the importance of discussing key issues like hurricane preparedness and flooding. We are excited to jump-start the conversation on Thursday, October 4th, and have decided to extend Early Bird Registration to THIS Wednesday, Sept. 19. Those who sign-up will have a chance to win a meal for their table (of up to 6 people) at Charleston Grill. Visit our Hosting page to register!
We are also pleased to announce the addition of Butcher & Bee, The Daily, The Daily at the Gibbes, and D’Allesandro’s Pizza as restaurant partners of On the Table. A limited number of tables (including food and service) will be donated to participants at these restaurants. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more and reserve your complimentary table!
You are signed up to host... now what? Hosting a table is simple, and we have resources to help.
You determine a location for folks to meet on Thursday, October 4th, 2018 for a mealtime conversation to discuss the ways in which we can commit to making our communities stronger, safer, and more dynamic – communities where opportunities grow, quality of life is enhanced, and families thrive. You can have your discussion wherever you want and serve whatever you like – from a meal in a restaurant or home-cooked meal at home to a picnic, barbecue, coffee break, or a soup-and-salad meal.
Who do I invite?
The invite list is up to you; 8-12 guests per table is ideal. If you are unsure about who to invite, start with people you know - family, friends, colleagues and neighbors. You may consider reaching out to a larger community by co-hosting your event with a local restaurant.
What do we talk about?
On The Table is all about discussing the issues that are most important to you - the people of the Lowcountry. In other words, people at your table should discuss any and all community issues most pertinent to them. If you need some inspiration, check out our Host Conversation & Action Guide, or head to our Resources page for everything you need to know about hosting!
Early bird registration for On The Table has begun! If you register to host by September 12th (11:59 pm EST), you’ll be entered to win a dinner at Charleston Grill for your table of 6-10 people on October 4th. By registering early, we avoid wasting paper on materials that may not be needed. We are submitting print orders soon, so please help us save paper and have your chance at a one of a kind dinner experience.
On October 4th, 2018, thousands of Lowcountry residents will gather in groups of 8 to 12 people to share a meal and discuss the challenges and opportunities we face. The top On The Table ideas and recommendations will be awarded Spark grants to enact change, made possible from the Library Foundation of the Lowcountry.
While you're at it, refer friends, family and colleagues to help us reach our goal of 1,000 tables. Together we can engage a wide range of opinions, needs, interests, and causes on Thursday, October 4.
